We offer tuition for all stages of musical development - beginner to advanced. 30 minute lessons take place during the school day and after school at our partner schools.  Our group beginner programmes - Musical Jam and Blast-off are a great way for your child to begin their musical journey.

MUSICAL JAM - Years 1 & 2 at school

Our instrumental prep course which awakens and nurtures a love of active music-making in children.

TERM FEES: $175 per child

Based on the Orff-Schulwerk* method of teaching, this programme incorporates singing, movement, ensemble playing and experimentation on instruments children love to play - xylophones, hand-drums, maracas and more. With an emphasis on live music making, improvisation is also encouraged which develops each child's individual creativity.  Musical Jammers learn to 'feel the beat' and the fundamentals of music in this fun, supportive environment which ensures successful, future musical experiences. The transition to an instrument in year 3 at school is enjoyable, easy and fun for children who have completed the Musical Jam programme.

*Orff-Schulwerk is an approach to music education which uses songs, movement, rhymes, clapping games, poetry and stories drawn from the imaginative and cultural world of the child.  Children improvise, compose and invent their own music using tuned and untuned percussion instruments.

BLAST OFF - Year 3 at school

Blast-off is a one term 'test drive' of our two most popular instruments for juniors (ukulele and keyboard).

TERM FEES: $175 per child
Please note that this programme runs at school in terms 1 and 2 only

This fun music programme is the perfect way to introduce your child to playing an instrument.  Each weekly 30 minute lesson (5 weeks on each instrument) also includes some general music theory covering the fundamentals of rhythm, note-reading and dynamics. At the completion of the course children get to choose the instrument they wish to continue learning.  Allowing your child to take ownership of their instrument decision has great benefits especially with regard to their motivation to play regularly, practice and progress.

The two instruments included in this programme are well-suited to this age group (based on physical size and learning development) and skills learnt on each can be transferred to other instruments - ukulele to guitar; keyboard to drum kit, percussion and most other instruments.

I just wanted to tell you how much my son has improved this year with you as his teacher. He is really inspired to learn and practice - probably because he is learning songs that he likes! It has made a huge difference to his enthusiasm for guitar and it is great to see him practicing just because he wants to. So thank you for your wonderful teaching skills.

We find Lewis Eady Music School very convenient since our daughter can learn throughout the school day, and can offer every child who enrols the chance to enjoy music, which will be with them for the rest of their lives.

St Joseph’s Orakei has benefitted in many ways through its association with Lewis Eady.

Having Lewis Eady in our school has provided students with easily accessible and affordable music tuition.

Through group learning children enjoy the social element and musical rewards that come from learning and playing together. Students learning the guitar through Lewis Eady have played in School/Parish Masses alongside the teacher.

Credits are given by Lewis Eady for each pupil enrolled, for the school to use – we have been able to purchase a range of instruments using these credits. Lewis Eady has provided music scholarships which has made it possible for pupils who might not otherwise have the opportunity, to learn an instrument.

It is through Lewis Eady nominating our school, that St Joseph’s received 25 free ukuleles.

It is also through Lewis Eady that our school received an invitation to a free concert put on by the APO for school students.

Lewis Eady is very supportive of schools in their efforts to provide music for their pupils. I fully endorse the Lewis Eady initiative, as I have seen individuals, and the entire school, benefit enormously from this amazing arrangement!
