Originally founded as the Aoyama Musical Instrument Manufacturing Company by Jitaro Aoyama in 1897 in Fukui, Japan. Now the Aoyama Harp Co, this family business is dedicated to hand crafting the best pedal and lever harps money can buy.
As well as using traditional designs and time tested techniques the Aoyama Harp Co. also embrace modern gothic designs and have developed their own lever, the Aoyama Sharping Lever. Made of solid brass and plated with gold the Aoyama Sharping Lever is smooth, tight locking and easy to flip up and down. The model 130 is a 34 string lever harp. Hand made to the highest standards in Japan by master crafts-people it is perfect for those that are new to the world of harpesty. Relatively light weight with three removable legs, this harp is easy to transport making it ideal for the performer, the busy teacher or the student that travels to and from lessons. The legs can be substituted for a shorter option, designed with the younger student in mind.

The model 140 is a 36 string lever harp. Hand made to the highest standards in Japan by master crafts-people it is similar to the model 130 with the addition of two strings at the treble end. It also features a resonant box at bottom of the soundboard which boosts the volume and tone of the harp making the sound full and warm. This is a very stable harp with a low centre of gravity.

The Etude series of harps are Aoyama’s entry to the pedal harp world. With its straight soundboard design and modest cosmetic appointments, it’s every inch a modern classic. Available in a smaller ¾ size 42 string model designed for the smaller/younger harpist or the travelling minstrel.

A grand concert harp that boasts a powerful yet beautifully soft sound, matched only by its hand carved Arabesque patterns and gold plated hardware. The Musa has exceptionally accurate pedal controls, designed with the most demanding music in mind. An extra wide extended soundboard (EX) is available as a special order. This innovation provides a continuation of the soundboard extension into the treble section. This increases the surface area of the soundboard to enhance tone and sound projection.

As the name suggests this is Aoyama’s jewel in their crown, a grand concert harp that is as harmonically stunning as it is visually spectacular (We are pretty sure that this is what angels play). Several specifically chosen types of spruce are used on the sound board for perfectly balanced harmonic response across all of the strings. Hand carved designs on both the pillar and pedestal are coated in gold foil, making this harp a work of art.
