BIOGRAPHY
James Guan was born in Sydney and showed musical promise from a very early age. He began learning the piano accordion at the age of 6 and changed to piano at the age of 7.
James attended the Shanghai Conservatory of Music in China from 2000-2002, then the Sydney Conservatorium of Music High School from 2003. He began studies with Paul Rickard-Ford in 2007. He is presently a third year student at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and the recipient of the Vimpani and Bessie Cook Scholarships. He was the winner of the Keyboard Unit’s Concerto Competition. He was also a finalist in the Vlassenko Competition in Brisbane in 2009.
In addition to these successes, James was a featured artist at City Recital Hall, Angel Place and performed numerous solo recitals in China to great critical acclaim.
