MARTIN GUITARS

"If I could choose what to come back as, it would be as a Martin OM-45" Eric Clapton

At Lewis Eady, we are proud to stock and recommend a wide range of Martin guitars. Come in to our showroom and enjoy a coffee and chat to our passionate staff about the Martin Guitar Company.

From the affordable 1 series to the Performing Artist series, we have Martins for all ages and budgets. We don’t have the Martin you want? No worries, as a Martin Marquis dealer, Lewis Eady has a very strong relationship with the local Martin distributor which means if there is a particular Martin guitar you want that we don’t have, we can usually get it in store within a day or two.

The Martin & Co. Guitar Company was founded in 1833 when C. F. Martin left Germany to set up his very first shop in New York City! Not only is Martin the oldest surviving makers of guitars in America, but they also have revolutionised the guitar in the years they have been in business, designing a whole lot of features that are still used by luthiers today.

In the 1840’s C. F. Martin perfected the ‘X-bracing’ technique to give extra strength to the top of the guitar. This enables it to handle the tension of steel strings and heavy playing, while still maintaining the legendary Martin tone. This pattern is still considered to be the best bracing technique and is imitated by guitar makers worldwide. The worldwide favourite Dreadnought shape came to fruition in 1916 and was named in honour of the massive battleships of that generation and in 1922, Martin introduced the first line of guitars made especially for steel strings.

The re-introduction of the 1 Series in 2009 provides players with an affordable, solid wood bodied guitar backed by a heritage of over 175 years in skilled building excellence. Constructed from solid tonewoods including a Sitka spruce top, Sapele back and sides, and East Indian Rosewood fingerboard and bridge, the 1 Series creates the legendary rich and commanding Martin sound that has defined the acoustic guitar for generations. All four models being introduced feature Martin's modified hybrid scalloped top bracing. Two are purely acoustic guitars: a Dreadnought size D-1 and an Orchestra Model OM-1, and two add to the current selection of acoustic-electric models the Dreadnought DC-1E and the Orchestra Model OMC-1E.

The new Performing Artist Series is an innovative line of acoustic/electric guitars debuted in 2010. The three models that form the foundation of the new series include the - DCPA1 – Dreadnought -OMCPA1 - Orchestra Model, and the new Grand Performance - GPCPA1. These acoustic/electric models provide flexibility and professionalism for guitarists, from small coffee houses to large arenas to simply recording with your laptop or in a professional studio.
An acoustic guitar is a very personal thing, so for your ultimate Martin guitar, Lewis Eady is able to arrange for you to design your very own Martin Custom Shop. Mix and match your favourite tonewoods, custom inlays, trims, finishes and other appointments, you can make you dream guitar a reality.
