Almost 300 students (adults and children) have their music lessons each week at our Great South Road Music School (situated above our Retail Showroom). Most lessons are one-on-one although there is facility for group or paired lessons in some cases.Once your lesson time has been confirmed it remains your exclusive reserved lesson time for the rest of the year unless you advise us in writing that you no longer wish to have music lessons. Contact us if you wish to cancel your lessons. If you do not advise us in writing that you are cancelling your lessons you remain liable for payment of that term's fees. Please note that you can call our office to arrange a change of regular lesson time if your scheduled time needs to change for any reason. Once your lessons have been scheduled at a time that is suitable to you we confirm those details to you by email. Your invoice for thee term's lessons will also be emailed to you. Please note that payment must be made prior to commencement of your lessons or within 7 days of the date of the invoice, whichever is the sooner. Your lessons are tailored to suit your requirements so we recommend that you take the time to discuss the 'desired outcome' of your music lessons with your tutor at your first lesson. Please arrive at least 5 minutes early for your lessons. Your late arrival will determine the final length of your lesson. Your lesson will finish at the scheduled time so as not to delay the next student. To get the most benefit from your music lessons you will need an instrument at home to practice on.What happens if I miss a lesson?Credits cannot be given for missed lessons. If you are going to be absent from your lesson you can 'nominate' another family member (or friend) to have that lesson. You must provide us with the name of your 'nominee' prior to the day of the lesson. Can my child sit exams?Yes. We encourage children to be presented for examination when they are ready. We offer both Trinity Guildhall or ABRSM. Your child must have been learning for at least one whole year (4 terms) with us and must be scheduled for individual lessons the year prior to the planned examination. Presentation for examination is at the discretion of your child's tutor. We arrange a 'mock exam' prior to the actual examination to assess whether your child is adequately prepared. We will not present a student who is not considered ready to sit and pass. aYour child's tutor will work closely with you to ensure a successful outcome and pleasant examination experience for your child. How do I find out how my child is progressing?Mid-year self assessment certificates are completed by each student (except adult students) with guidance from their music tutor in Terms 2 and 3. Questions are based on the NZ Curriculum's key competencies and give students the opportunity to take responsibility for their musical progress. Self assessments provide a useful indication for parents as to how much students are enjoying their lessons and what progress they believe they are making on their instrument of choice.A written report will be completed by your tutor at the last lesson in Term 4. Parents are welcome to observe their child's lesson from time to time. Will my child have an opportunity to perform?Student concerts are held in Term 2 and Term 4 in the Lewis Eady Recital Hall or in the piano showroom. Students are invited to participate. This is an opportunity for parents to hear their child's progress and for pupils to gain experience in performance.Lewis Eady Singing Rainbows ProgrammeOur Singing Rainbows programme designed for pre-school children from 18 months of age. The classes incorporate a repertoire of action songs, finger plays, knee rides, puppetry, folk dancing, ensemble percussion playing, creative expression through movement and story-telling. Creative use of both natural and manufactured common objects and sounds result in some very innovative music-making and a range of musical styles is explored including European, Maori and Pacific Island traditions. Children learn to listen to and recognise sounds, silence and a range of tempos. Once we have your enrolment form we will contact you to discuss your requirements. Please note that some venues have a waitlist so please indicate on your enrolment form whether or not you are happy to be on a waitlist or not.
